[Personal] Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes

Marvel is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and so Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes exhibition hit Singapore.

Being a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (which means I don’t read much of the comics), I managed to get my sister to join me in visiting the exhibition.

As the summary found on Marina Bay Sands ticketing page quote:

Experience epic storytelling as you wander the inner sanctums of Stark Tower, travel via the Bifrost, see the spectacular sights of Wakanda, traverse Doctor Strange’s light portal, see the world through the eyes of Ant-Man and the Wasp, and more! Celebrating 10 years and 20 films, Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes is a cutting-edge exhibition that utilises state-of-the-art AV technology and immersive media to transport you into the dynamic Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The first decade’s only the beginning.

After experiencing the exhibition myself, I was pretty disappointed  with how the exhibition turned out; especially when they mentioned its Marvel 10th Year anniversary. Maybe because I had visited the Marvel Avenger S.T.A.T.I.O.N that was held in Singapore Science Center during 2016-2017, I was expecting something of a similar level.

In terms of length of the exhibition, it was definitely a small scale exhibition. I visited the exhibition at 11AM, which was relatively early; there wasn’t much of a crowd. But what came as a surprise was by the time I had finished the entire exhibition and with the retail area, I was out of the place by 1145 AM.

The exhibition was broken down into the few main themes: Iron Man, Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant Man, Dr. Strange, Black Panther and Thanos. These exhibitions include some of the life sized figurines of our heroes and villain.

I supposed one of my disappointment stems from the fact that Captain America seems to be non-existent from the exhibitions entirely. And he is my favorite character from the current MCU. 😦

In addition, in terms of interactive content, I felt more could be placed in the exhibition? For instance, for the Marvel S.T.A.T.I.O.N exhibition that was held in 2016-2017, there was a number of interaction exhibitions found throughout the entire exhibition, and to ensure that visitors get to learn more about the characters from the MCU, it was recommended that visitors should download a mobile app which they can answer questions as the more through the different exhibitions.

Perhaps it was my expectations being a tad too high, but I honestly felt the exhibition in Marina Bay Sands was lacking.

Rating: 3/5

While the exhibition does create some form of insights that helps you to be a little more connected to some of the MCU characters and you could take photos with some of the characters from the universe, I thought the exhibition could be improved in some ways, in terms of engagement with the visitors.

That said, if you are a huge fan of the MCU, you could consider heading down to the exhibition to check them out.

Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes will be found at Art & Science Museum from 9 June 2018 – 30 September 2018. You can get your tickets online here.

For getting to Art & Science Museum, you can take the MRT to Bayfront Station, and a 15 minutes walk (at best), will bring you to the Museum. (You can also take the opportunity to explore the shopping areas of Marina Bay Sands as you make your way to the museum).
